The fee is not refundable regardless of whether: you don't like the answer, believe that it should not require more research,
the possibilities are not black and white; etc.. The diagnosis is half my normal fee, and besides that,
you learn the most in the first few hours you speak with an attorney about your case. I encourage you, if you
have not already, to look at this page for an at-length discussion of how important I believe the concept of a
good "diagnosis" is in most all family law cases.
Essentially, I will analyze your full situation for 1 to 1.50 hours (depending on whether,
in my discretion, your circumstances or family law problem warrants more or less time. I don't set the
clock running exactly. Sometimes, I can only say that I need another hour of research. Other times
I take one look and offer to give the $185 back because this is going to take me three hours of digging
into a case with a 20 year history of changing custody of 3 kids!!!!.
It mainly depends on the number of issues involved. I'll spend what it takes
to answer your main questions. I will tell you what your choices are and what
may happen along each possible pathway.
Sometimes, your situation may require further research. I will tell you that as we go along, and
continue to give you the best heads-up as to what will happen in your case.
